The Phra Pathom Chedi is the world's tallest pagoda at 120.45m
in height and 234.75m around the base.

The original ancient Buddhist site (believed to be circa. 2,000 years
old) was restored by order of King Mongut (the fourth king of the
Chakri Dynasty). The Chedi is said to enshrine a relic of The Buddha.
The temple grounds at the center of which the Chedi stands are
huge and possess a Xanadu-like quality of tranquility and community.
It feels like one is ascending a mountain to a spiritual domain.  This
may well have been what King Mongut was aiming at creating when
he had this man-made mountain rebuilt.
Nakhon Pathom is in the region  that was part of the Dvaravati
civilisation. This civilisation was at its peak in the 7th-11th centuries
(Christian Era) and was a different civilisation to that that
subsequently migrated south from southern China (probably the
area that is now the Yunnan province of China) to occupy the fertile
central plain of Thailand (the Tai).  The collections at
The Phra
Pathom Chedi National Museum
exhibits many Dvaravati pieces
found in this area.
Sanam Chandra Palace was a palace of King Vajiravudha.   Like
other Thai palaces, the 'palace' it is not a single building but an area
within which a number royal residences and other builldings were
erected over a period of time.
